About Nancy Makar & The Pathway’s Staff
Meet our staff and the founder. This team helps keep the offices ready for you, schedules appointments, advocates for mental health services in the community and more. We are currently working with patients in-person and via tele-health from our Spring Hill, Florida offices.
Meet Nancy Makar,
Owner & Director of Pathways Counseling Center
A Louisiana native, Nancy has lived in Florida since 1974 so she now considers herself a true Floridian. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and was employed with Pasco and Hernando Schools for nine years. She sort of “fell” into the business world at the age of 28. She founded and operated Suncoast Medical Oxygen, Wellwood Funeral Home (currently Grace), and finally, Pathways Counseling Center in 1991, after earning her Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida two years prior.
Although she loved teaching and school social work she discovered through experience that she had a “knack” for the business world too. Nancy believes her contribution to our community has been to educate and facilitate personal growth in the field of mental health. Besides seeing clients on a full-time basis for about 28 years she now runs and manages the business. There are nine additional therapists that partner with Pathways Counseling Center as independent contractors and four office staff who currently work at Pathways.
Nancy believes education is extremely valuable and experience is often the greatest teacher. She says, “Experience is the best teacher for learning adaptability habits in business.”
By sharing her experiences she hopes to facilitate growth and knowledge for those of you who are interested in learning ways to adapt and thrive in the world in which we live.
